EWG Verified Diaper Showdown

This post is in paid partnership with Coterie. I only endorse products I trust and use in my own family.

Shopping for a non-toxic diaper can get overwhelming quickly. I was relieved when I recently discovered there are a few EWG Verified diapers. EWG only verifies brands that fully disclose their ingredients and materials — a level of transparency not currently required in the diaper industry.

Each of these four brands is verified against 3,900+ chemicals of concern, a serious bar most diaper brands aren’t even attempting to clear. But being clean doesn’t automatically mean a diaper performs. So I put all four to the test myself.

Here’s my full breakdown across absorbency, fit and feel, price, and convenience. The TLDR? Coterie is my top pick! 🏆

Absorbency

We’re talking diapers here, so performance is extremely important. I need a diaper that I can trust to get the job done. To test how quickly each diaper wicks moisture away, I poured 8 oz of water in each diaper and compared absorbency speed. Since some brands claim to hold up to 16 oz, I decided to add another 8 oz to see how they held up.

How quickly 8 oz of liquid absorbed in each diaper.

Freestyle: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The first cup of water absorbed fairly quickly, however after adding the second cup, there was a small amount of leaking through the back panel and overall damp feel

Attitude: ⭐️⭐️ Liquid did not seem as easily absorbed, I noticed a small amount of pooling as I poured. Felt wet to the touch on both sides after the second cup

Coterie: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absorbed liquid almost instantly (see above!), diaper felt dry to the touch on both sides after both cups of water

HealthyBaby: ⭐️ Even after just one cup of water, diaper felt noticeably wet. As I poured the second cup, water started pooling and leaking out the sides

Winner: Coterie

Fit & Feel

I’m a firm believer that diapers should be held to high standards and actually be pleasant to use for both baby and parent. Soft to the touch, no weird gaps, no irritated skin, and no unnecessary laundry from blowouts. At the end of the day, the best fit will vary from baby to baby, but here’s my experience with my own kiddo, who is average sized.

Freestyle:  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fit my baby well, however I did notice a faint plastic smell. Feel was nice, very smooth

Attitude: ⭐️⭐️ Fit was normal, however a bit stiffer material and not quite as soft

Coterie: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Super pleased with the performance and fit! The softest feel by far

HealthyBaby: ⭐️ Crinkly with a faint plastic smell. Noticeably smaller size than other three brands

Winner: Coterie

Price

Pricing fluctuates a bit with each brand based on how many packs of diapers you purchase, if you subscribe, etc. Here’s a rough price breakdown, as of June 2026:

Freestyle:  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ~$0.42 per size 3 diaper (with subscription)

Attitude: ⭐️  ~$0.70 per size 3 diaper

Coterie: ⭐️⭐️ ~$0.57 per size 3 diaper (with subscription)

HealthyBaby: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ~$0.52 per size 3 diaper (with subscription)

Winner: Freestyle

Convenience & Customer Service

As parents, we all have a mile long to-do list. Removing even one thing from the daily mental load is a win! Here are my thoughts on my experiences with each diaper brand.

Freestyle: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Available online and at Target and Whole Foods. Subscription available, though with limited built in customer service

Attitude: ⭐️ I could only find these online through Amazon, so I didn’t get a chance to test their direct customer service

Coterie: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Available online and at Whole Foods. Subscription available and next level customer service, including 24/7 text support

HealthyBaby: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Available online and at Target. Subscription with built in customer service, though I found their customer service flow harder to navigate

✨Winner: Coterie

Final Verdict

After thorough testing, Coterie is my clear pick for the top EWG Verified diaper. They check every box: third-party verified clean ingredients, best-in-class absorbency, and a feel that’s softer than anything else I tested. And as someone who has now been subscribing for a while, their 24/7 text support has been an unexpected bonus.
